Most Securit liquid chalk markers can be revived, as they feature water-based pigment ink and a valve-action system with a removable nib.
The restoration steps:
- Clean the nib: Carefully pull the nib out of the marker body (most Securit nibs are reversible). Soak it in lukewarm water for a few minutes, then rinse it under running water to clear out dried pigment. Blot it dry with a paper towel and set it aside.
- Replenish the reservoir: If the ink inside has thickened, inject 1–2 ml of lukewarm (preferably distilled) water into the reservoir. Avoid over-diluting, as this degrades opacity. Because the valve mechanism sits directly behind the nib and blocks direct flow, use a syringe fitted with a long, blunt dispensing needle (at least 2–3 cm). Gently depress the internal valve with the needle tip while slowly injecting the water.
- Shake thoroughly: Reinstall the nib, recap tightly, and shake vigorously for 1–2 minutes until the internal mixing ball moves freely and remixes the settled pigment.
- Prime the marker: On a scrap surface, gently depress the nib repeatedly with a pumping action until fresh ink saturates the tip.
If the nib is frayed or permanently misshapen, Securit sells replacement nib sets, allowing you to keep using the marker as long as ink remains in the reservoir.
